This free tool works out what your electricity really costs and whether a different plan would be cheaper. It takes a couple of minutes to set up.
You're set up
- 1Pick the dates at the top (or a quick pick) and press Compare costs.
- 2Compare shows which plan would have been cheaper, and lets you pick the plan to compare with.
- 3My usage has graphs and a calendar of when you use power and what it cost. Bill check checks an Amber bill line by line.
Connect your Amber account
For Amber customers. The app reads your usage and prices directly from Amber; it can't change anything on your account.
- 1Log in at app.amber.com.au/developers, choose Generate new token, and copy it (Amber only shows it once).
- 2Paste it below. That's it: the app opens on this month's figures.
Amber's fixed charges (optional)
The defaults suit most Sydney homes. For exact figures, load one of your Amber bills: the boxes fill in by themselves. All amounts include GST.

No Amber account needed. You'll need a file of your meter readings, ideally for a whole year.
- 1Get your meter readings as a NEM12 file: ask your current retailer for your "interval data", or download it from your electricity network's website.
- 2Import it here, check the network details it finds, and press Estimate Amber and compare.
- 3On the Compare tab, pick the plan you're on now to see which is cheaper.
Each reading is priced the way Amber would have: the wholesale price at that moment plus Amber's 2026-27 network and other charges. It assumes you use power exactly as you did. With a home battery, Amber's automatic battery control would usually do better than this.

Free-power plans: what if you moved your use?
Some plans make power free for a few hours in the middle of the day. If you have a battery, an electric car, a pool pump or a timer hot-water system, you could run them then. This shows each plan as you actually used power, and as if you'd moved some of it into the free hours.
